I'm on my last 4 months in the Navy, after serving for 12 years. I realized that 90% of the time, the minute I have to put on my Uniform in the morning my mood changes. The burnout is so fucking real. 3 months after getting back from deployment, they took one of my guys and loaned him to another Squadron that undermanned and was deploying for another 9 months, He's going to miss his kid being born, then when he comes back, he comes back to our unit and will deploy again. 3 deployments, in 2 1/2 years. And the Officers wonder why they can't keep people in. Such bullshit, and when I brought all this up to the chain, "Well, that's the Military for you, Mission comes first", rich coming from the people that aren't the ones that have to go.

This was a great essay man and my feelings were the same as yours. I fell in love with this game during the closed beta and I have replayed it every December since it came out in March 2016. One of my favorite games for just world building and the experience and no other game gives me that feeling to this day. Although I wish more emphasis was placed on the survival aspect of the game as well as the story as opposed to loot and pvp.

Yeah pretty crazy concept how a character written in first person might use a particular set of language, whereas from another character’s perspective their own POV/internal monologue might have little to no swearing, it’s almost as if by showing how characters communicate/think we are give more insight to them as a whole, but eh what the fuck do I know since I used a few no-no words

The navy to me was fairly insane in many ways especially their expectation that volunteers for sub duty should remain submariners for their entire career, which is a real bite in the ass if you ask me, which of course they didn’t. When I got fed up with sub duty I made an issue about not being a volunteer anymore and through various bureaucratic machinations into which I will not go in any detail I managed to get out six months early since I didn’t have enough time remaining for transfer to surface craft. When I got home I went to the Coast Guard and got sworn in as a merchant seaman and was issued my first Z-card as an ordinary seaman, food handler, and wiper for the engine room. After teaching for 7 years I decided to start shipping out and got upgraded to Able Seaman which I was eligible for being an ex navy Quartermaster or navigational watch stander. As a college graduate I was eligible for OCS but after being sent there after making E-5 I became disgusted and resigned almost immediately or on the third day I was there. I also got kicked out of alcohol rehab which helped build a case for early discharge. I didn’t care because my second boat was in dry dock and we had nothing of substance to do anyway. The missile boat was well run but the fast attack boat was a disaster with a fairly screwed up crew. In the merchant marine you can quit and fly home if it becomes unbearable but if you get into the habit of doing that there’s no point in persisting in that career so I finally went to barber college and did that for 20 years. And no, I don’t wish I’d been a barber in the navy because that would have been a nightmare. I wouldn’t have minded being a cook in the merchant marine but once you’re rated as a AB they don’t want you going into the steward’s department. Sound familiar? My dad was an army musician from 1945 to 1947 in the Philippines where he played the drums in their Independence Day parade presided over by General MacArthur and President Aguinaldo. He got drafted but made tech sergeant even though he was in for just 2 years. He didn’t like the army either, but nobody really expected him to. After all, he was a professional musician who belonged to the union and played in dance bands.

Was there at Fort Benning for Basic. They wound up kicking me out because they found a medication I had a trial for when I was like seven. While there I saw prostitution, sexual assault, drug running, and group beatings, and a Drill get knocked out during Combatives by a trainee he'd basically been abusing for months and all of the other drills present jumping him, probably making him retarded forever. All any of the cadre and enlisted I came across would tell us was how miserable it was in The Army and that we should try to get out. Eventually, I was sent to the Covid ward because I had a cough and I caught the eye of one of the Sergents there who went out of his way to talk about how shitty my company was and how the NCO's were all dogshit and that the whole "The best are drills and the worst are recruiters" sthick is just a lie. After I got back, I found out I was going home and was somehow spared being brigged up by the medical major I had been speaking with, I was buddied up with a guy in the platoon who had tried to kill himself with his locker keys and asked by my senior drill to spy on everyone else in the platoon as well as the other drills. I eventually became thankful I was being thrown out, it was like fucking middle school mixed with county and I was told it didn't get any better - worse as a matter of fact. Yet all anyone else could talk about was how "honorable" anf "dignified" it was, constantly chattering that stupid Jocko snake oil salesman shit. Right. Godspeed man.

UA-cam is strange with how it automatically selects slots for ad breaks, I just set all my videos to let UA-cam decide where to place ads, less work on my end. It took three years of my life to write this book, edit, format, publish, and after years of only selling a handful of books I just wanted to share my work with as many people as possible - UA-cam was the answer for that. So I spent months doing my very best with substandard equipment to record, edit, and release my books in audiobook form for free to the masses. Yeah I agree that ads suck, but thank you for the penny I earned for you sitting through it. Honestly I don’t care if you use ad blocking while watching my videos - if it helps with you having an uninterrupted listening experience then by all means go for it. If you have actual criticism for my content I’d love to hear it so I can continue to learn and grow as a writer. Sorry you had to sit through some ads as you listen to a audiobook for free.

I busted my ass and just got more work cause i was the dependable one...that and loneliness hit me. Thougjt i was getting better and re-enlisted and relapsed...and didnt help i met my soon to be ex wife right after i re-enlisted...big mistake there. Missed home...missed her....relapsed and couldnt deal with the favoritism.
